Does the Vette have SAE bolts? I have metric everything and was wondering if I would need SAE.

I’m pretty sure GM went metric in the late 90's.

Well the C5 was released in 97 so it could go either ways then?

I would assume the great majority would be metric and a few standard here and there

only in the sense of 13mm being “close enough” to 1/2".

The ‘88 Camaro I’ve been helping with has been completely metric, which surprised me.

Or bolts so corroded that they’re in between sizes.

I have a 96 c/k 1500 (Silverado) and a 98 Camaro. Both designed in 88 and 93 respectively and I have only had to break out standard twice because the small block had standard distributor, probably designed in the 70s.

I almost guarentee it's all metric. Other than the spark plugs

As well

19mm is 3/4

13/16 is 21mm

Ca n confirm it’s almost entirely metric.  The ones that aren’t metric are only that way because they match an SAE size.

No, a C5 will be fully metric. The C4 on the other hand was a mixed bag. On my former 93 LT1 6-speed car, anything on the engine was SAE, anything on the suspension or brakes was metric, and any  a faste ner on the body or the rest of the drivetrain could be either.

Depending on what you were doing, you certainly got in the habit of double checking that your tool fully fit the fastener before putting much force on anything.

Actually, I got that wrong. Anything on the body was SAE, it was the engine that could be either. For example, when changing the water pump, the fastener s on the pump we re all SAE (which is important for chasing the treads that go all the wa y through the block casting into the water jacket and have to have sealant applied to the threads on reassembly) but the s erpentine belt system in front of the pump was all  metric.
